GLOBAL COMMODITY MANAGER DIRECT MATERIALS

The Client: Our Client is a large international industrial player (undisclosed), in the North of Italy.

Within the company, Procurement represents a Strategic Global Function under the leadership of the Group CPO, who is successfully driving a relevant transformation and value generation journey. The Procurement function has been progressively shaped to be a “best in class” contributor to this journey, with a solid governance, a clear strategy, and distinctive skills to support continued company growth and future acquisitions. In this context, a new Commodity Manager, Direct Materials is now needed: an A-player, who can bring across fresh energy and strong functional skills to strengthen the function even further.

Position – The role:

The Global Commodity Manager will report to the Procurement Director of Business Unit and will take ownership of Raw Materials categories/Direct Materials. The role has an international scope, encompassing oversight of approximately 10 manufacturing plants globally

He/she will be in charge of 1) Designing a comprehensive commodity strategy and, 2) Initiating breakthrough Commodity Programs and Policies across the supply base, to ensure optimum TCO (Total Cost of Ownership), on top of quality, delivery, sustainability, and innovation.

The role implies coordination of 2/3 buyers.

The complexity of the role and the recognised seniority will be driven by

  • the ability to shape in autonomy the global strategy for the assigned commodity and group of key suppliers; and
  • the capability to lead this strategy across a range of commodities, driving them through their next transformation phase.

The achievements obtained will generate high impact for the whole group and will be of high significance for a consistent professional career development.

 

Position – Specific responsibilities:

  • Initiate, develop, and implement effective Supplier strategy, and Performance Programs. Create global Supply Market intelligence regarding Commodity related trends and technologies per region to design optimum sourcing footprint.
  • Take ownership of (existing / new) Supplier relationships:
  • Identify Supplier capabilities, performance and technologies by conducting competitive assessments and benchmark of existing and potential suppliers
  • Identify Commodity related business opportunities based on provided Supplier innovation/ideas
  • Ensure operational impact through fully compliant Supplier selection, contracting and risk management for all Commodity related Suppliers
  • Drive impact to the bottom and top line, ensuring 1) best results and synergies through Supplier Performance development initiatives, and 2) an innovative negotiation approach.
  • Ensure deep understanding of Business Unit needs, and manage execution in alignment with BU functional axis
  • Manage negotiations, Suppliers phase-in/phase-out, spend allocation controls, contractual terms and risk. Ensure full utilization of Negotiation toolbox and approach to maximize sourcing savings and best results
  • Orchestrate all activities to ensure fast decision making, while being active member of the procurement team. Define convincing business cases and decision memos to ensure full commitment by the Businesses to provide required resource
  • Ensure effective communication and representation of Commodity strategy, programs and performance to all key-stakeholders
  • Finalize and approves Supplier Strategy and Business plan based on defined Commodity strategies and proposals.
  • Create and aligns sourcing plan to optimize Supply Base and to implement Supplier enabled innovation
  • Brings YoY saving through negotiation and value engineering projects

Requirements:

  • Degree in Economics / Business Administration or Management Engineering
  • About 6-10 years’ experience in a similar role in Industrial environment and in complex multinational organizations renowned to be best in class. Previous experience in direct materials is not necessarily key as strong technical knowledge is already widespread in the team.
  • Full proficiency in spoken and written Italian and English.
